Description
Win4LIn products run Windows applications and Desktops on Linux operating systems.
The technology used by Win4Lin products has been developed over the last 20 years (assets were acquired from NeTraverse Inc.) to enable UNIX systems to run Windows applications with the same fidelity, stability and speed as native UNIX applications. Win4Lin technology has evolved to become the best integrated computing experience for hosted Windows applications on the non-Windows desktop. The Win4Lin Product Family includes two core products: - Win4Lin Desktop - Runs Windows applications on Linux Desktop - Win4Lin Terminal Server - Serves multiple Windows sessions from a Linux server onto thin clients or low cost personal computers. Win4Lin products run the Windows operating system as a native Linux process so Win4Lin can execute the guest operating system, Windows, with the same scheduling and priority as other processes. Utilizing the network transparent X Windows system, Windows and Linux sessions are not tied to a single display. Windows and Linux sessions can be displayed to dumb terminals, thin clients or even web browsers. Additionally, Win4Lin Terminal Server when coupled with redisplay technologies like VNC (www.realvnc.com), and NoMachine (www.nomachine.com) can benefit from thin client server architecture where Windows and Linux desktop computing can occur on highly available, redundant servers and be sent to fault tolerant thin client terminals. The terminal server style of computing requires lower investment at the end-user's desktop by using lower cost PCs and thin clients and instead allow you to use limited financial resources for building high availability, portable infrastructure in the data center or server room. Giving workers secure access to enterprise applications and enabling IT administrators the benefit of administering an end-to-end Linux footprint is at the heart of the Win4Lin value proposition. Hosting Windows operating systems on Linux offer a number of benefits to end-users and systems administrators alike. - Hosted Windows systems are much more flexibility for the management and deployment of Windows applications since the hosted solution is not tied directly to a traditional PC. - Since Windows virtual PC installations become "soft machines" it makes it possible to commission and decommission users centrally from a PC console rather than at the users desktop. |
