Description
Luke-SDK is primarily an Integrated Development Environment for Boo, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Lua, OCaml, Perl, PHP, Pike, Python, Ruby and Tcl/Tk. It supports a modern edit-and-run style of programming and is project based with many features not commonly found in language specific IDEs. Interactive shells and commands run in a smart terminal where the results can be searched, filtered, saved and printed. It has extensive context-sensitive help for every menu and most dialog boxes. The built-in use of sudo makes it convenient to use for Linux system administration such as building and installing software, looking at log files, editing configuration files and controlling system processes. There is full support for HTML and other mark-up languages for both documentation and web pages with syntax checking, spell checking, link checking, viewing and conversion of images and uploading of files using SFTP. The software is designed to work out-of-the-box without the need to install plugins or select from a large range of options with unsuitable defaults that are confusing to new users. It is supplied with a set of snippets, templates, tools, wizards and a dictionary that can be modified or added to by the user.
At present there are no call tips and code completion is limited to language keywords. Although it is generally usable the development is not yet complete. Requires wxPython (http://www.wxpython.org) and a 2.5.x version of Python. All other dependencies are optional depending on the languages used. The integrated version control system is Bazaar-VCS but there is also support for Subversion and Git. The software is currently packaged as a source tar.gz file with an installation script. The package contains a small utility program, pty, that is compiled for i386 and may need to be recompiled. |
