where do the files go?

If you're like me you didn't know where the glibc-doc files were installed and had to hunt for them. With Ubuntu they were installed in /usr/share/doc/glibc-doc/html

A way to figure out where is a package is installed is to look at the properties in the Synaptic package manager. It will list the location of the installed files.
